Value of Community: Reflections from HR in Travel

ree

What happens when HR professionals from all corners of the travel industry come together to share their experiences, challenges, and successes? Together, the impact is undeniable.

HRinTravel began with a simple goal: to create a space where HR professionals in travel can connect, share ideas, and support one another. It's become exactly that; a place to have honest and safe conversations about what's working, what's tough, and  to help each other grow both professionally and personally.

Sharing Challenges, Finding Practical Solutions

One of the things that stands out for me about HR in Travel is the honesty and openness in the conversations. Whether it's figuring out how to balance hybrid working while maintaining team spirit or sharing policies that actually work in the real world, members bring a lot to the table.

In just a few months, the community has already faced some real challenges together. It's been amazing to tap into the range of experiences here and come up with practical ideas that actually work. For example, a recent share of a Harvard Business Review article, "To Change Company Culture, Focus on Systems, Not Communication," sparked some eye-opening discussions. The article suggests that changing company culture isn't just about messaging; it's about the systems and habits that shape how things really run day-to-day. This fresh way of thinking helped us explore how to make culture change more lasting in travel organisations.

Whether it's making workplaces more inclusive, tackling complex HR policies, or boosting company culture, the conversations remind us that we're not in this alone.

Creativity, Connection, and Community Spirit

Community isn't just about solving problems; it's about building connections along the way. One fun example is the HR in Travel Spotify playlist created by our Founding Team which encompasses eclectic songs chosen by our members that capture what it's like working in HR within their travel company. It's a light-hearted way to remind us of all that we're in this together.

Alongside that, members regularly share blogs, resources, and lively discussions that have become go-to references. These small but meaningful things demonstrate that the community is just as much about connection and celebration as it is about supporting one another professionally.

Why This Community Matters

Working in HR means supporting others, but HR in Travel highlights the importance of having a space where support flows both ways. Whether it's asking a tricky question, sharing a helpful insight, or simply knowing that others understand, this community keeps us grounded and connected.

Being part of HR in Travel is a constant reminder that learning from one another makes us stronger. Every conversation, article, or story contributes to a more informed and united HR profession in travel.  I'm genuinely proud to be part of this community and grateful for the inspiration and knowledge it's already brought me.

Looking Ahead

As a Founding Team member, watching the community grow has been incredible. Although we're only a few months in, the progress is exciting, and the best part is what's still ahead. There are plenty more ideas to share, knowledge to build, and support to offer, as we navigate the ever-changing world of HR in travel.

HR in Travel proves that when passionate professionals come together with a shared purpose, the results are meaningful, practical and often a great deal of fun. I feel fortunate to be part of this journey and look forward to seeing where it takes us all next.

We welcome thoughts from our HR in Travel community.
